Base Borden Military Museum is one of Canada’s great military museums. It holds artefacts that represent the history of Camp Borden and the various schools, Corps and Branches that have been a part of that history.
CFB Borden was the home of the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps, Royal Canadian Air Force, The Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, The Canadian Provost Corps , The Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps and the Royal Canadian Dental Corps (amongst others). CFB Borden had museums dedicated to each of these units over time.
In 1990’s the separate museums were directed to combine into one to form the Base Borden Military Museum. In June 2007, a new main building for the museum complex was opened, with a large hangar for the display of historic military vehicles and an Air Force Annex. The museum complex consists of several buildings and a memorial park. The Base Borden Military Museum is affiliated with: The Canadian Museums Association, Canadian Heritage Information Network, The Organization of Military Museums of Canada, and the Virtual Museum of Canada. The museum continues to grow and evolve with new vehicles and restorations ongoing.
Outside the museum, Major-General Worthington Memorial Park or ‘Tank Park’, named for the father of Armoured Corps, contains armoured vehicles and artillery pieces from Canada as well as other countries around the world dating back to the First World War. Some of these vehicles are inside the tank hangar and others are scattered around the base itself.
The Air Force Annex contains many interesting artifacts detailing the history of the RCAF in Borden. Inside the annex you will find the AVRO 504K aircraft, the oldest flyable aeroplane in Canada, as well as others on display both inside and outside.
